Psalm 145:4 says, “One generation shall commend Your (God’s) work to another and shall declare Your mighty acts.”
In the new year, I would like our church to take part in the Pray for Me Campaign. The Pray for Me campaign provides a way for adults to pray for our church’s students, encouraging them to grow in wisdom and favor with God and man (Luke 2:52) and encouraging them and ourselves to set an example for other believers in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity (1 Timothy 4:12).
In this campaign, young people from grades 5-12 will be asked to sign up to be prayed for. We also invite adults in the church to sign up to pray for these young people. Then we begin to pair children with adults. Ideally one adult from each generation (20-30s; 40-50s; 60s+) would be praying for each child. Churches have made modifications, and the campaign could be done with one student and one adult.
Adults praying would get the book, Pray for Me prayer guide: adults praying for students
The book’s introduction emphasizes
- Praying the scriptures–each book has a scripture for each day of the week.
- The 7 Essentials–7 aspects of life the author, Tony Souder, believes need to be attended to for someone to flourish in living faithfully before God and man.
- These essentials are: Favor, Wisdom, Love, Faith, Purity, Speech and Conduct
The adult guide focuses on one of these each day and then and then begins again the next week (day 1, favor; day 2, wisdom; etc.) for the first 4 weeks, and then at week 5 they focus on one of the Essentials for the week. After that there is a week of Praying the Proverbs and a week of Leverage Prayers.
