April 2024
Dear Family and Friends,
Thank you for your unwavering support and encouragement over the years. Each one of you has played a vital role in shaping who I am today. Currently, I’m finishing my first year of Grad school at Columbia International University working on my degree in Care and Counseling. I am so grateful that God has allowed me to continue my studies and work towards my MA in this field.
God has given me an exciting opportunity for this summer! On May 15th, I depart for a six-week missionary internship in Pucallpa, a vibrant city in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. Pucallpa is the last reachable city by road before the start of the jungle, where many Indigenous communities are located. With over 310,000 residents, Pucallpa is a major jungle city that serves as a gateway to the Amazon as well as the hub for South America Mission’s operations within the country.
I discovered South America Mission (SAM) through Columbia International University. SAM is a non-profit, interdenominational mission organization that desires to see dynamic churches multiplied across Latin America that transform local communities and the world as they embody the Kingdom of God. SAM’s core ministries are based in Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, and Colombia. In each country, by God’s grace and power, SAM missionaries commit to living as redeemed children of God, reproducing authentic disciples of Jesus, multiplying dynamic churches, training Godly leaders, and enabling transformational initiatives.
While in Pucallpa, I will live with a local family and work alongside seasoned missionaries. I’m excited to explore diverse ministries, including ESL, children’s ministry, youth ministry, sports ministry, ministry to the elderly, and evangelistic outreach programs. I hope to learn how to “do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, I value others above myself", as Philippians 2:3 instructs. Also, I hope to walk boldly in my faith!
Together with SAM, we've outlined a budget for my internship. I need to raise $5000 by May 6 for international travel expenses, visa fees, living expenses, and ministry needs. The first $2000 needs to be raised by April 15. Would you prayerfully consider joining my support team? The best way to do that is through prayer and donation. Below you can read specific ways to pray and how to give. Your prayers and gifts will impact my life and open the love of Christ to countless others in Pucallpa and beyond.
Prayer Request:
- Pray that God directs my path, words, and heart toward the people of Pucallpa.
In Christ,
Emily Duchow
